In the urban expanse of Singapore, where space is a premium, Jansen Tan has shaped a home around his automotive pursuits. A former national cyclist and Formula Drift Asia driver, Tan's reverence for car culture is evident in the structure he inhabits, a constant explored throughout our Garage Visits.

A Foundation for Obsession
The ground level of the Garage House functions as both workshop and sanctuary. This dedicated space accommodates a diverse collection. Vehicles include a Porsche 992 GT3, an RWB-built 964, a 911 Safari, a Toyota AE86, a Volkswagen Thing, and a Nissan Silvia S15. Each dimension of this area reflects a deliberate design for precision and utility, echoing Werkstatt 80, a purpose-built garage workshop where a serious Porsche collection and a highly functional workspace coexist within a carefully considered environment. Tools and equipment are arranged for accessibility, supporting ongoing projects and maintenance.
The Collection Below
Within the polished concrete expanse, the vehicles reside. A red RWB Porsche 911 stands alongside a classic red Toyota AE86. A white Volkswagen Thing occupies a car lift, poised for attention. This arrangement allows for both display and active restoration - a balance also seen in the A-Frame Workshop where a Porsche-focused collection is equally considered as a visual centerpiece and a space for hands-on work. The environment is controlled, illuminated, and functional, a testament to a focused passion.
Life Above the Workshop
Above the garage floor, a floating glass-box office provides a vantage point. From this elevated position, the cars below are visible, integrated into the daily routine, similar to that of Obsession, Integrated, where the garage and car collection is intentionally framed through large glass windows visible from the home office. The upper levels of the residence contain the living spaces, designed to support a dynamic family life. This vertical integration allows for a constant connection to the automotive heart of the home.
Spaces for Creation and Connection
Tan spends considerable time in the garage, often accompanied by his children. The space transcends a mere storage area; it is a place for work, for restoration, and for shared experiences. Here, the lines between hobby, craft, and family life blur. The Garage House stands as an example of a space where personal obsessions are not confined, but rather woven into the fabric of daily existence.
